Ambitious College nominated for Home Learning Natspec Award

We’re delighted to announce that Ambitious College has been nominated for another prestigious Natspec Award this year!

Natspec is the membership association for organisations offering specialist further education and training for students with learning difficulties and disabilities. The Natspec Awards aim to recognise and celebrate excellent practice in the specialist further education sector.

We have been nominated in the home learning category, after previously being nominated for and winning an award last year for wellbeing and mental health.

Due to the pandemic, our team at Ambitious College has been using innovative strategies to support learners, and their parents, while learning was taking place at home.

Iestyn Withers, Employment Specialist at Ambitious College, said: “This has been the year of innovation. No one expected a global pandemic to curtail our traditional education methods, but at Ambitious College we have engaged our learners and ensured they continue to progress and develop.”

The team has championed a combined approach using learning packs, online lessons and resources. This has resulted in an increase in learners’ ICT literacy, and the team has also introduced iPads for every young person to consolidate and build on this learning.

Iestyn added:“This will support learners to improve their employability and independence, as will the continued support to help learners transfer learning from college to the home environment. Through a concerted effort we have continued to make the ordinary possible - even if we are living in a new-ordinary.

Being shortlisted by Natspec is a testament to the hard-work of our staff and learners respectively.”

The winners of the 2021 Natspec awards will be announced later this year.
